Message from the President

Makoto Kosaka, President of University of Hyogo

Together, we can change the world for the better.

The University of Hyogo (UH) was established in 2004 by merging three traditional prefectural universities: Kobe University of Commerce, Himeji Institute of Technology, and the College of Nursing Art and Science. Today, with six faculties, nine graduate schools, five research institutes, and attached junior and high schools, UH stands as one of the leading public comprehensive universities in Japan.

Our new students will pursue their studies across nine diverse campuses located throughout Hyogo Prefecture, honing their sensibilities and cultivating both humanity and an entrepreneurial spirit.

We now live in an age when the future is difficult to predict--an age defined by the rapid advancement of information science and technology, exemplified by AI; by intensifying global conflicts; and by the urgent crisis of biodiversity.

Digital intelligence is profoundly transforming education and research. Throughout your university life, I urge you not only to recognise the utility of information science and technology but also to diligently sharpen your critical thinking--the ability to discern the flood of fake information and to make independent judgements--and your creative thinking--the capacity to propose new alternatives through multifaceted approaches.

Guided by the SDGs' principle of "leave no one behind," our university upholds academic freedom and harmony. We are advancing innovative reforms from a global, dialogue-based perspective, aspiring to become a trusted hub of scholarly knowledge that resonates across the world.

A university is a place where you encounter people with diverse perspectives and come to see yourself in relative terms. I sincerely hope that you, as young people responsible for the future of our prosperous planet, will believe in your own potential, stand alongside others sharing their pain, build bridges between people, and create new value and hope in this troubled world.

Welcome to the University of Hyogo.
