REPORT:JAWS/ AJJ Joint Conference at the University of Hyogo
On April 4~6, one of the most important conferences on the anthropology ofJapan, the first JAWS (Japan Anthropology Workshop) and AJJ (Anthropology of Japan in Japan) was held at the University of Hyogo.
The conference united researchers from 15 countries and 5 continents, and there were 77 presentations given on the topic "Ritual Practices and Daily Ritual in Japanese Society." To add a practical element to the theoretical discussions, the Jiguruma Group from Tenjin Matsuri (Osaka) was invited to give a performance on campus, during which the participants could not only admire the 150-year old danjiri and join in the dragon dance, but also interact directly with the members of the group.
The event was generously sponsored by Tansuikai Alumni Association, Daniel's Wine Club, and Nobori Group.
