Jazz Performance with Elementary and Middle School Students

On January 11, 2025, a concert by the University of Hyogo Jazz Lab was held at Koto Plaza in Harima Science Garden City under the leadership of “Sparkle,” a voluntary association of students from the School of Science at the University of Hyogo. The audience listened to the pleasant jazz music. Some of the audience enjoyed the rhythm of the music with their whole body. Even shoppers passing by stopped to listen to the jazz music.
In the latter half of the concert, local elementary and junior high school students took the stage and played “Pomp and Circumstance Military Marches” and “Jupiter,” which are also featured in music textbooks, in an ensemble performance with the Jazz Lab. The students played recorders, keyboard harmonica, and keyboards, and their collaboration with the JAZZ Lab. members' deep performance resulted in a rich musical experience. It was a stimulating concert for the elementary and junior high school students who performed. After the concert, the students were able to touch, learn about, and try the instruments used by the JAZZ Lab., making it a valuable experience for the elementary and junior high school students and local residents.
